useful as we do! For many runners, increasing speed and efficiency
are important goals but ultimately, our training achievements are
determined by how successfully we have paced ourselves. Pacing is
critical! When training
at the track, our goal must be to hit splits within half a second a
lap (two seconds per mile) of our planned goal pace. This keeps the
heart rate as low as possible for the given effort and distance,
increasing our ability to sustain pace over a longer period of
time.
In short, it is not always about how fast we can
run, but, how controlled we can run at speed.
Sometimes we have to run slower in order to run
faster!
